Seventeen years of work: data and AI engineering since 2024, and before that a career in language education, assessment design and teacher training. The two are more connected than they look.

Data Engineer

HelloPrint

  • Design and maintain production cloud ELT pipelines with Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, dbt and BigQuery on GCP.
  • Integrate more than a hundred heterogeneous suppliers into reliable operational data models, across APIs, SFTP and Google Sheets, and JSON, XML and CSV formats.
  • Build reusable models and macros with testing, CI/CD, idempotent processing, retry logic and observability.
  • Optimise BigQuery transformations for performance, maintainability and cost.

2024–

Independent AI learning products

Self-directed

  • Design, build and deploy LLM-based educational products end to end: frontend, backend, data and evaluation.
  • Work on misconception modelling, rubric-based scoring, context-engineered prompting and diagnostic logic.
  • Projects include exam-nation, ieltswriting.ai and a CEFR spoken-response scoring lab. See Work.

2022–

Founder

BuddyApp Ltd.

  • Founded and built a social planning application in Flask, SQLAlchemy and Postgres, deployed and operated in production.
  • Implemented authentication, chat, notifications, shared plans and user-moderation flows, with Google API integration.
  • Own architecture, deployment and iteration, alongside business planning and market research.

Assessment Content Writer and Educational Consultant

  • Line manager, level leader and teacher trainer; designed and led the national rollout of an advanced teaching-methodology course preparing educators for the Cambridge DELTA and Trinity Diploma.
  • Taught general English, EAP and IELTS to young learners and adults; trained and observed teachers on the Trinity TYLEC; taught Spanish and French to KS3–KS4 in the UK.
